Woman with fur hat and scarf standing outside the Summer Palace, in the snow

Hello Ladies,

I’m Tracy and I love to travel.  This is a place where you can discover how to take that solo trip you’ve been dreaming of for years. There’s also a splash of travel guides, a smidgeon of travel writing stories, a sprinkling of Scotland and a whole host of empowering content to help support you be the women you are deep inside.  Travelling helps build our confidence, but what do we do before we have that? I’m here to help you bridge that gap.

I’m 52, I have 3 grown kids and a fur baby; I currently live in the Shetland Islands in Scotland.  Later this year I’m planning a move back to Edinburgh, capital of Scotland. My first solo trip abroad was in October 2018, when I visited Venice and Rome. I completely fell in love with travelling on that trip and since then, it’s pretty much all I want to do. There is so much world out there to explore and I want to experience it all.

Why I started to travel solo

Following my divorce at age 40, I discovered I had no-one to travel with.  My friends were either in relationships, so understandably, wanted to spend their precious time off with their significant others, or still had younger children, with all the needs that go along with parenthood.

If you look at what you have in life, you’ll always have more. If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough.

Struggles with anxiety

I struggle with anxiety, which has become more pronounced since I hit the peri-menopause – any of you ladies reading this can relate?! And also since Covid restricted our movement here in the UK for over a year. But I decided not to let this stop me. I’m here to support all you ladies that are struggling too, to help you discover the joy that I find in travelling.

How I discovered solo female travel was a thing

My first inkling that I could do this travelling on my own was through reading. I’m an avid reader and stumbled across a book called ‘Can we live here?’ by Sarah Alderson in which a family search for a place to settle and call home. Amazon then offered me suggestions relating to this title and I discovered Kristen Addis’ book, ‘A Thousand New Beginnings.’ These books blew my mind. When I discovered Kristen’s website www.bemytravelmuse.com . I was so intrigued. It led me down an Alice-in-wonderland rabbit hole of discovering all these amazing women who had taken themselves off to explore the world and had amazing, life-changing experiences. I began to think – ‘if they can do it, surely I can do it too!’

Blogs for women like me and you

A lot of travel blogs that I read seemed to not be written by women like me. They fell into two categories, either in their twenties and off exploring without any home ties, or older, but had been travelling for decades, with all the experience that comes with that. I started this blog for women like me: women over 40, finding themselves single through divorce or bereavement with kids that have flown the nest. Women who are looking to begin to travel later in life.

I believe I can offer a unique perspective, that I hope can empower other women to find their confidence to get out there and enjoy this world of ours. After being a secondary English Teacher for the past 17 years I’m ready to use my skills in a different way, sharing my experiences and hopefully helping you live out your dreams.

I offer 1-1 coaching support and am working towards building an online course. If this is something you could be interested in, click the schedule Now button and schedule a chat, Id love to hear from you.

Here’s a short video chat I had with Yogita Ridgley of Travel with Me, Myself and I, about my journey, on her channel Solo Travel TV.

So welcome ladies,

I want this blog to be a welcoming place. A place that can be a refuge on a busy day, a place that can challenge you into making your world broader. A place that can support you in accessing the joy found in travel.

Enjoy Travel, Linger, Relax, where I hope you can find the time and space to do just that 🙂
